Concept

In this captivating card game, players explore a system of resource-rich planets, each offering a different level of possibilities and challenges. There are six distinct planets besides the Golden Planet, each characterized by a resource level ranging from one to three. At the start of the game, planets are randomly placed on the game board, providing a varied gaming experience in each game. Players can then set out to explore these planets in search of valuable resources. The resources themselves are drawn randomly from the game, adding a dimension of strategy and risk-taking. Players must balance their actions between exploiting available resources and managing their cards to maximize their chances of success. In addition, the game dynamics are enriched by the possibility for planets to move during the game. This adds an additional element of surprise and strategy, as players must constantly reassess their position and objectives based on the planets' movements.

Rules

Using captain cards:

Captain cards allow players to use the resources they have collected to purchase relics, equipment, and crew members. Each card has an associated resource cost, and players must pay this cost to gain the benefits offered by the card. The tools and equipment available for purchase may vary depending on the course of the game. This includes improved cannons for the spaceship, advanced defense devices, more powerful engines for propulsion, or even special artifacts that grant unique powers and help protect against potential attacks.

In addition to purchasing tools and equipment, Captain cards can also allow players to recruit new members for their crew using available resources. These crew members may bring special skills or strategic advantages that aid players in their quest for space domination, obviously crew members can come from any nation.

Capturing the planet:

The spirit of the previous captain protects the planet adding an additional dimension of challenge and strategy to the game. Here is how this mechanic works: Protection by the spirit of the captain; When a player attempts to capture the planet, the spirit of the previous captain, who haunts the treasure planet, awakens to defend his domain. This defense consists of being able, through attack and defense cards to add a random part during the game, the treasure planet has several defenses which vary depending on the number of players, namely that if we miss the planet, this one in a spirit of vengeance attacks us in return and brings down one of our improvements.

Jewels, jewels of darkness

When a player successfully captures the treasure planet , a three-round countdown immediately begins, symbolizing the time needed to secure and consolidate the player's position on the planet.

No Turning Back: Once the three-turn countdown has begun, it cannot be reset, even if another player manages to take control of the planet before the end of the three turns. This adds an element of suspense and competition, as players must decide whether to attempt to retake the planet or risk losing it forever.

Risk of Permanent Death: Once a player is on the treasure planet, if they are defeated by another player, they permanently lose that location. This further intensifies the competition for control of the planet, as each clash can have lasting consequences on the course of the game.

Defense and Attack Strategy: Players must develop strong defense strategies to protect their control of the planet during all three turns, while planning effective attacks to attempt to reclaim the planet if it is captured by an opponent.

Testing and balancing

We started with sketches on blank sheets of paper, cut out by hand and drawn with pencil, an authentic and immersive way of bringing the world of our card game to life.

Here are some of the steps we followed in the creative process: Brainstorming and preliminary sketches: We brought our team together to explore the key ideas and concepts for your game. Then, we started sketching out the first ideas on blank sheets of paper, using noting items such as planets, spaceships, crew members and resources.

Definition of the universe and game mechanics: Using our sketches to define the universe of our game, including the different planets, their characteristics and resources, as well as game mechanics such as the skills of the members of the game. crew and card interactions.

Creation of cards and game elements: From our sketches, we began to create cards and other game elements using cardstock and drawing tools such as pens or markers. Testing and iterations, once the first maps were created, we started testing the game with our team.

Then we subsequently created a first, more finalized version, using Tabletop Creator Pro, with visuals created via Illustrator and Photoshop by our team of illustrators and 3D artists in order to be able to visualize the shape of the game, the different elements and create a real graphic identity for the game. We were able to have it tested with players, at festivals or on the internet with the use of Tabletop Simulator Pro, thanks to numerous feedback during the games, we were able to redo the balancing of the game, by adding rules, simplifying things and modifying certain mechanics.

As visuals and communication are very important tools in the design of a board game, we chose to create our visuals and our game in 3D format in order to be able to accurately visualize and follow the progress of the project. Starting from the concept of the original box, the way of storing the cards, the different choices of compartments and the different elements to put inside. The 3d part allows complete customization of the game and the visualization of a final version even before the start of production.
